Over the next few days you will find out about netiquette and online safety. It's important to know the codes, guidelines, rules and expectations of how you should act online so you do not get hurt or offend anyone. There are required activities you must complete each day and some extra ones should you finish early and have time left. Once these days are done, you should understand the difference between an ONLINE identity and an OFFLINE identity.





Day One - Tuesday, September 13, 2011

Objective: To learn what types of personal information should be shared with strangers on the internet.

Process: You will use another webpage to read several blog entries about personal information sharing on the internet. Then, once you have read the required entries, you will discuss your thoughts in our discussion board.

Tasks: Open this website to complete the 4 tasks below - it will open another window.
1. Scroll down the page to June 16, 2010 to read the blog entry about "Public Tweets" then go to our discussion board here and respond to the question on the same topic.
2. Scroll down the page to February 26, 2010 to read the blog entry about "Online Quizzes" then go to our discussion board here and respond to the question on the same topic.
3. Scroll down the page to April 7, 2009 to read the blog entry about "What's NOT personal information" then go to our discussion board here and respond to the question on the same topic.
4. Scroll down the page to April 15, 2008 to read the blog entry about "What exactly IS personal information" then go to our discussion board here and respond to the question on the same topic.

Extra Time: If you finish those four blog entries early, you can do some of the following...
1. Go back into the discussion boards to read what your classmates have said about the topics. When you have something to say, feel free to respond - just make sure it is appropriate, kind and worthwhile for the topic!
2. Go back to the website with the personal information blogs and read some of the other entries - please do not click on other links or pages in the site. There were many more than 4 available, but the others are important for your personal information knowledge too!
3. Use the navigation bar on the right to go to the keyboarding page and visit some of the games which allow you to practice your typing.




Day Two - Wednesday, September 14, 2011

Objective: To learn how to communicate online in a safe way without giving away too much information or hurting someone else.

Process: You will use another webpage to learn about safe online communication. This includes both reading and responding to topics and watching a video to take a quiz.

1. Scroll down the page to December 11, 2007 to read the blog entry about "Safe online profiles" then go to our discussion board here and respond to the question on the same topic.
2. Scroll down the page to August 19, 2008 to read the blog entry about "Online/Offline friends" then go to our discussion board here and respond to the question on the same topic.
3. Scroll down the page to October 6, 2009 to read the blog entry about "Online photo albums."
4. Go to this animation which will give you some quick information about the characters and then ask you to take a Cyberbullying quiz.

Process: You will use another webpage to learn about netiquette. It will involve reading blogs, responding in discussions, taking a quiz and reading tip sheets.

4. Read Tips for Dealing with Cyberbullying and Tips for Reporting Cyberbullying and then go to our discussion board here and respond to the question on these topics.
